Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders plays surprising role in Mike Tomlin and Shedeur’s pre-draft chat

Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders played the most surprising role “Prime Time” can play in Shedeur Sanders and Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin’s pre-2025 NFL draft chat: no role at all.

“Tomlin has known his father, Deion Sanders, for a long time. However, the meeting did not talk involve him at all, and Tomlin is not new to coaching the sons of NFL legends, and he is not sure Sanders will be much different,” PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh wrote.

Shedeur, whose jersey retirement during the Buffs’ Black and Gold spring game caused a stir across the sports world, dropped not-so-subtle hints about Pittsburgh taking the “Grown QB” with the No. 21 overall pick – or a pick the Steelers could trade up for if that’s what it takes.

“Whoever gonna be the quarterback for DK Metcalf and George Pickens, whoever that is. I like George Pickens and DK Metcalf. So whatever that means for who is listening,” Shedeur said on “The Rush with Maxx Crosby.”

Pittsburgh has been a team held hostage this offseason. Some feel that about Aaron Rodgers’ free agency hesitation after meeting DK Metcalf, anyway.

Notable people in Steelers lore, to boot.

“I think Aaron secretly is still holding out for Minnesota, which is why he hasn’t signed with the Steelers. Why else would you go throw with DK and be working out and put it out, blast it to everybody that I’m throwing to these guys, but you won’t sign?” Roethlisberger said on the “Footbahlin” podcast.

Shedeur, who some franchises seem to be bearish on considering his projected first-round backslide, seems to be the antidote to Rodgers' indecision.
