After the New York Giants fired Brian Daboll as their coach, there has been a lot of speculation about who could be the potential replacement.

One name that has been a part of the rumor mill is ex-Patriots coach Bill Belichick. He is currently coaching the North Carolina Tar Heels at the collegiate level. However, he is rumored to be a suitable replacement for Brian Daboll.

On Wednesday, Colin Cowherd shared his thoughts on Bill Belichick joining the Giants. He believes that the Giants should not pursue the eight-time Super Bowl champion and should look for other options like ex-Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy

"I said two coaches feel pretty obvious to me, Mike McCarthy and Lane Kiffin," Cowherd said. "I have defended Belichick's relationship with one 20-year old, I'm not gonna give him Jaxson Dart too. Okay, no.

"I think you can look at Belichick as the world has changed in football, you can look at one player, Mac Jones. This is what worries me. When Mac Jones was in New England and Josh McDaniels was there, he made Pro Bowl. "Mac Jones this year with Kyle Shanahan has been the best bridge/backup quarterback in the league. ... When Josh left, took the Raiders job, and Bill had him, he was awful. Unplayable. ... So there is a formula that works with young quarterbacks. And it's not saddling up to the side of a 74 year old."

Brian Daboll was fired after the Giants' 24-20 loss to the Bears in Week. This season, he could only muster a 2-8 campaign, ending his four-season stint in New York with a 20-40-1 overall record. Mike Kafka was named as the interim head coach of the team until they find a suitable replacement.

Bill Belichick opens up about the possibility of joining the Giants

During Tuesday's press conference, the UNC coach was asked about the rumors linking him to Brian Daboll's successor for the Giants. Belichick responded that he has been inquired by players and recruits about this speculation, but his main focus is ending his debut campaign in Chapel Hill on a successful note.

"I have been asked about it from time to time," Belichick said. "But, look, I've been down this road before. I am focused on Wake Forest, that's it. That is my commitment to this team. This week is Wake Forest, next week is that opponent, and so forth. I am here to do the best for this team."

The Tar Heels are 4-5 after Saturday's victory over Stanford. They will face Wake Forest this upcoming Saturday at 4:30 p.m. ET.
