America's Coco Gauff will face Argentina's Solana Sierra in the group stage of the United Cup 2026.

Gauff remained unbeaten to lead Team USA to their second United Cup title at the start of 2025. Her unbeaten run came to an end in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. The rest of the hardcourt swing wasn't as memorable for her.

Gauff raised her level during the clay swing. After back-to-back runner-up finishes in Madrid and Rome, she claimed her second Major title with a comeback win over Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open final. She didn't win a match on grass, and a doubles title at the Canadian Open was the highlight of her North American swing.

The American rediscovered her form in Asia, reaching the semifinals of the China Open and winning the Wuhan Open. Her title defense at the WTA Finals concluded in the group stage, and she ended the year ranked No. 3 for the third year in a row.

Sierra made her breakthrough in 2025. She reached the fourth round of Wimbledon as a lucky loser, registering her best result at a Major. She won two titles at the WTA 125 level. She also peaked at No. 64 in the rankings following her Wimbledon run. This will be her debut at the United Cup.

While Gauff had a pretty successful season in 2025, it wasn't without its issues, particularly with respect to her serve. She eventually hired biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMilan to fix her serve. He previously worked with Sabalenka.

Sabalenka had her own service woes to deal with in 2022, and hired MacMilan in the second half of the season. She then bagged her maiden Major title at the Australian Open 2023.

Gauff has usually made a strong start to her season over the past few years. She won the ASB Classic in 2023 and 2024, and then made the fourth round and the semifinals of the Australian Open in those years. She won all of her singles and doubles ties at last year's United Cup, and advanced to the quarterfinals in Melbourne.

While Sierra leveled up in 2025, getting the better of Gauff will still be a tall order for her. Her 2-8 career record against top 100 players doesn't instill any confidence in her chances. The American will be expected to make a winning start to her campaign.
