The annual WTA awards were held at St. Petersburg, Russia, on Sunday, December 14, and some of the top women's tennis players were awarded for their standout performances in 2025.
The winners were decided by the members of the international media through voting. The first set of winners was announced on Sunday, with more scheduled for later. Let us now take a look at the list of winners for this year:
#1. Player of the Year - Aryna Sabalenka
The World No. 1 player from Belarus won the most coveted award in women's tennis. She became only the third player in the last 15 years to win the award multiple times.
There were four Grand Slam winners in the 2025 season, and Sabalenka managed to win the US Open title. Moreover, she won four titles, reached nine finals, and won the highest number of matches in the year (63). The Belarusian thus managed to overshadow Coco Gauff, who was also in the reckoning, by winning the French Open and finishing the year as the World No. 2.
#2. Doubles team of the year - Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend
Siniakova and Townsend won the Australian Open women's doubles title and also reached the US Open final. Townsend finished the year as the World No. 2 in doubles.
Moreover, Siniakova, who finished at the top, is now third in the all-time list of players with the longest term as World No. 1 in doubles. Their doubles team is of rare pedigree.
#3. Most improved player - Amanda Anisimova
Anisimova was the only player selected in two different categories, as she was also nominated for the Player of the Year. She won two WTA 1000 titles in 2025 in Doha and Beijing.
The American also reached the finals of Wimbledon and the US Open, thereby exhibiting some rare consistency. She will be expected to carry her good form next year.
#4. Comeback of the year - Belinda Bencic
Bencic of Switzerland took a break from the sport after the birth of her child. Her baby was born in April 2024, and she made a comeback at the United Cup this year.
Bencic defeated Elena Rybakina to win the WTA 500 title in Tokyo. She also reached the Wimbledon semifinals and then won the WTA 500 title in Tokyo to finish the year as the World No. 10.
#5. Newcomer of the year - Victoria Mboko
Mboko, the 19-year-old from Canada, was the breakthrough star of the year. Ranked outside the top-300 at the start of the year, she finished the season as the World No. 18.
The youngster reached the third round of the French Open and then went on to win the National Bank Open in Montreal. She broke several records in the process, including beating the most Grand Slam title champions in one event.
