The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the best teams in 2026, which includes the nine-game winning streak they went on before the All-Star break. It was one of the most impressive stretches of any team, ranking third-longest streak in the league this season behind the Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons.
Considering those two teams are the best in the NBA, the Hornets reaching a similar peak is admirable. Coby White saw something special brewing early on in Charlotte. He was playing for the Chicago Bulls, but now, he can immerse himself in the Hornets' winning culture.
New Hornets guard already knew the team was in for a strong season
The Hornets always operate under low expectations because they have not been a great team historically. However, something has shifted with the current Hornets squad because they have promising players throughout the roster.
Led by LaMelo Ball, the Hornets have a superb team now. Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel look primed to be star players, which makes for a great core alongside Ball. Head coach Charles Lee is developing into a solid leader for the Hornets, which is why they are succeeding this season.

As a previous outsider, White saw that the Hornets were much better this season. The record did not suggest that early on, but the core trio and coaching staff were much improved. Now that White is with the Hornets, he can fully experience that promising development this season.
"We played them earlier this year here. This was before they went on their run, but I knew Coach Josh Longstaff; he is one of the assistants... We were talking about how you can feel there was a shift in the culture, and what they're doing," White said about a big shift with the Hornets this season.
White makes a great point because that massive shift can be felt. Knueppel's arrival might have been the catalyst, but everyone else is also playing well. Moussa Diabate, Sion James, and many more players are contributing. This is a fun team that will get even better with White's offensive capabilities.
