Cleveland Browns were interested in Las Vegas Raiders veteran, but he was traded elsewhere

The Cleveland Browns will enter the season with some combination of Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and Deshaun Watson. It’ll be up to the coaching staff to decide which route makes the most sense.

It's also possible that the Browns add another quarterback in the future, whether through the NFL draft or another route.

That's evident after Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that Cleveland could've landed Geno Smith under the right circumstances.

“The Browns also weren’t really interested in former Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, and never contemplated trading for the Colts’ Anthony Richardson or anyone else. They may have acquired former Raiders QB Geno Smith if they could’ve gotten him for the veteran minus of $1.255 million.”

Smith, a veteran capable of helping an offense, would've been a decent addition if everything made sense. He eventually ended up with the New York Jets in a trade that sent a seventh-round pick to Las Vegas.

While Smith has had a nice little career for himself and has definitely bounced back during his time with the Seattle Seahawks, he struggled with the Raiders and probably wouldn't have been anything that the Browns fan base was hoping for at this point.
