Cleveland Browns urged to trade quarterback before start of 2026 NFL season

The Cleveland Browns are being urged to trade a quarterback before the start of the 2026 NFL season.

Bleacher Report's Moe Moton recently listed one trade that every NFL team should consider before the season's start, and for Cleveland the deal involved flipped a third-string quarterback for some draft capital.

Browns urged to trade Dillon Gabriel for draft capital

Moton suggested that the Browns trade second-year signal-caller Dillon Gabriel for a late 2027, if the opportunity presents itself, since he appears poised to be buried on the depth chart in Cleveland.

"According to The Athletic's Zac Jackson, Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders are battling for the starting job. Based on his report of the team's quarterback competition, Gabriel will be a backup at best in the upcoming season," Moton wrote.

"Assuming the Browns target signal-callers in the 2027 draft, they should trade Gabriel before Week 1. As a rookie in six starts, he threw for 937 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions with a 59.5 percent completion rate. A team in need of a primary backup may be willing to take a flier on him."
