It was a rather ugly first season for Shedeur Sanders and the Cleveland Browns, but a lot of that could've been due to multiple reasons. Sanders struggled a good bit because of some outside factors, and if he has an opportunity to get a full offseason working with the first team, there's a possibility that he can be what many expected him to be coming out of Colorado.
While much of the offseason discussion has centered around Deshaun Watson and his recovery, Sanders is reportedly a major factor in the Browns' quarterback competition. The Browns believe the environment around him this year will be better, which will give him a better chance to succeed.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Cleveland is excited about what Sanders can do with more stability and opportunity.
“The Browns believe that Sanders will fare much better this offseason with an upgraded supporting cast, and with an offseason and preseason full of reps with the starters. Before long, Monken will have a feel for which of the two QBs gives the Browns the best chance to win.”
As I said, with a full offseason of first-team reps, Sanders will have the chance to build something, learn the system, and actually play with the guys he's going to throw the football to.
At the same time, Sanders still has a lot to learn at the NFL level. There were times last year when he looked to be a decent player, but he has to be much smarter in the pocket and know when to take hits.
