Cleveland Browns linked to veteran quarterback who no fan would want

The Cleveland Browns have continued to be linked to veteran quarterbacks, but most of the names on the market likely won’t make Browns fans happy.

The latest one was Kirk Cousins, a veteran who has proven he can be good but is far from what he used to be.

Despite that, Eva Geitheim of Sports Illustrated linked Cousins to Cleveland after he was let go by the Atlanta Falcons, noting that he showed flashes of decent play when called upon last season.

“Kirk Cousins is a free agent after he was officially released by the Falcons this week. Cousins played well for Atlanta after Michael Penix Jr. suffered a torn ACL, completing 61.7% of his passes for 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns and five picks.

“He’d be a great mentor for presumed Raiders No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza. If Cousins wants a starting gig next season, the Cardinals and Browns might be his best options at this point, even if the Cardinals are currently set to roll with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew while the Browns have Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson,” she wrote.

For Cleveland, the fit would be interesting. The Browns are currently going with Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders as their top options, but adding a veteran like Cousins would be fun to see unfold in a sense.

There’s also a leadership angle. Even if Cousins doesn’t win a starting role, his experience could be valuable in a quarterback room that includes a young, developing player like Sanders.
