There’s power in the small things.

For example, even the smallest kitchen staple can fuel big dreams — and this October, those dreams are taking off across America. Arm & Hammer Baking Soda once again brought curiosity to new heights with its second annual Baking Soda Rocket Day: Launch Across America, the nationwide science celebration marking the finale of World Space Week (October 4–10).

On October 9, classrooms from Queens, NY, to Trenton, NJ, to Houston, TX turned their playgrounds and parking lots into launch pads, sending homemade rockets skyward in a record-breaking attempt to launch the most baking soda rockets in a single day. Over 250 schools nationwide participated in the hands-on experiment, proving that science doesn’t just belong in textbooks, but in the hands of kids who dare to ask “what if?”

At the heart of the mission was Aerospace engineer and best-selling author Emily Calandrelli, better known as Emily the Space Gal, who returns for the second annual Rocket Day after her own trip to space in 2024. She led a live launch at PS127 Aerospace School in Queens, NY, where students created everything from paint-can blasts to bottle rockets, all powered by the simple chemical magic of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. Meanwhile, in Houston, retired astronaut Mike Foreman was on hand to inspire students to keep looking up, reminding everyone that every great explorer starts with curiosity…and maybe a little mess.

This initiative isn’t just about setting a record; it’s about sparking a movement. Baking Soda Rocket Day: Launch Across America shows that science can start anywhere — even in your kitchen — and that discovery is just as exciting as the destination.

By turning a humble household product into a symbol of imagination, Arm & Hammer is proving that with the right reaction, anything can take flight.
