Former Sports Illustrated model Christie Brinkley is currently promoting her new book “Uptown Girl,” which was released on Tuesday, April 29. The book discusses her infamous career as a model, actress, activist, and entrepreneur.
On Wednesday, April 30, Brinkley made an appearance on the daytime talk show Sherri with Sherri Shepherd. In addition to discussing her book, she also talked about her friendship with the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
Brinkey discussed the first time she met Jackson at a taping for We Are the World. She recalled noticing his incredibly shy demeanor.
“I see in the middle of all of this, Michael Jackson sort of hiding behind a potted plant in the room. I think he got overwhelmed by all the people and all of that; he was very shy,” she began.
Jackson explained to Brinkley that he just needed a little break from all the activity. He then asked her where she was from, and she told him she was from the Hamptons. It was then that Jackson revealed something about himself that she never would have expected.
“And he said, ‘Malibu…The Hamptons, I’ve never even seen the ocean.’ And I said Wait a minute, wait, you’ve never seen the ocean? And he said ‘no.’ And I said, You’ve never put your feet in the ocean? ‘No.’ I said, Well then, you’re coming to my house.”
Brinkley explained that it was important to her to give Jackson the chance to experience the ocean. Unfortunately, though, she never got the chance.
