Christian McCaffrey turned 30 this week, and if the 49ers star had any concerns about entering a new decade, his family made sure they were drowned out by mariachi music, margaritas and a private jet.
The festivities were documented by sister-in-law Sophia Culpo, who posted a behind-the-scenes look at a lavish family getaway to Mexico that looked more like a reality-show finale than a birthday weekend.
The trip started with private jet travel, custom Dwight Schrute T-shirts featuring McCaffrey’s face superimposed as “The Office” character, and baby Colette — affectionately known as Coco — arriving fully prepared for the occasion in a Christian-as-Dwight onesie.
After touching down, the group arrived at a sprawling luxury villa decked out with colorful balloon arches, giant “30” decorations, “CHRISTIAN” banners and enough life-size McCaffrey cutouts to make guests wonder whether the birthday boy was being celebrated or starring in a football-themed action movie.
Things escalated quickly.
As the family entered the home, a mariachi band was already waiting inside the living room.
One of the funniest moments came when McCaffrey casually pushed a stroller carrying a sleeping Coco straight toward the blaring band. Before the musicians could turn nap time into a wake-up call, wife and mother Olivia Culpo swooped in and rescued the stroller, preventing a possible birthday-party meltdown.
McCaffrey appeared more than willing to embrace the party atmosphere as a waiter carried a tray full of margaritas around the room.
He could be seen enjoying a margarita and attempting to dance along with the mariachi band. Unfortunately for the All-Pro running back, finding running lanes remains a much stronger skill than rug-cutting.
49ers teammate George Kittle was spotted recording one of McCaffrey’s valiant dance-floor attempts, which only increases the odds the footage will resurface whenever the tight end needs blackmail material.
The celebration wasn’t all laughs. Later videos posted by Olivia Culpo showed a softer side of the weekend as party attendants gathered around Coco and delivered a surprisingly earnest rendition of “Over the Rainbow” as an acoustic guitar played in the background.
For a man entering his 30s, it looked like a pretty good weekend: family, friends, football teammates, a private jet, ocean views and just enough embarrassing dance footage to ensure nobody lets him forget it.
