Chris Jericho hasn't competed for WWE in over seven years, and recent rumors and speculations have hinted that Y2J might return to the company. Meanwhile, Vince Russo thinks the management needs to allow Jericho to adopt a new role following his potential return.

Regardless of the wrestling promotion, Chris Jericho has repeatedly reinvented himself as a performer and remained relevant as an on-screen character. While there's uncertainty around his future in AEW, Vince Russo wants him to be himself if he ever returns to WWE.

Speaking on Behind The Turnbuckle Studios' The Coach and Bro Show, Vince Russo stated that a star like Chris Jericho should be heavily featured, and instead of the management restricting him with their creative pitches, they must give him a new role, like a commissioner or showrunner, for the weekly product.

"If you're going to bring Chris Jericho over for anything, that's what it should be. I would put him on both shows as the 'showrunner' and let Jericho be Jericho. Those shows would improve by leaps and bounds overnight," Russo said.

When did Chris Jericho last compete for WWE?

Chris Jericho has had multiple runs in the Stamford-based promotion as an in-ring performer under Vince McMahon's regime. In his final run, Y2J added his name to the history books when he became a Men's Grand Slam Champion. After having two reigns as the United States Champion, Jericho went on a lengthy hiatus.

In 2018, he returned to WWE when they celebrated Monday Night RAW's 25th anniversary. A few months later, he competed in the Greatest Royal Rumble match and lost. This was his last ever match for the Stamford-based promotion as a performer.

In 2022, AEW stars Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, and Big Show were featured in a video package congratulating John Cena on his illustrious career. It'll be interesting to see if Jericho decides to return for a final retirement run under the new regime.
