Chris Godwin hasn't been able to stay on the field after returning from a season-ending ankle injury he suffered in 2024. Godwin has missed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' last three games with a fibula injury, and while the team hoped to have several pieces back ahead of their Week 10 duel against the New England Patriots, Godwin might not be one of them.

He is always a good option for fantasy managers, but the uncertainty about his health could force some to look for different options.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers returned to practice after their bye week. They had notable absences in Wednesday's practice session, namely Chris Godwin and running back Bucky Irving, per insider Adam Schefter.

Godwin has been limited to just two games this season, first posting three receptions and 26 yards on 10 targets against the Philadelphia Eagles and then catching three more passes on four targets for 26 yards against the Seattle Seahawks.

He hasn't set foot on the field since October 5, while the Buccaneers have become one of the best teams in the NFC (6-2).

Head coach Todd Bowles clarified earlier that Godwin's injury was not season-ending, but it's still unclear when he will return. Meanwhile, Emeka Egbuka remains the team's WR1. On Wednesday, Bowles said Irving and Godwin are "progressing," but neither is confirmed to be available for the New England Patriots duel.

Should fantasy managers worry about Chris Godwin for Week 10?

The easy answer is yes. Chris Godwin isn't getting any younger, and he just suffered a season-ending injury late in the 2024 season. The Penn State product had issues finding his pace during his first two games, and it's unclear what version of him will return after he's healed.

The Buccaneers are in a solid position, leading the NFC South division after nine weeks, with Egbuka playing at a high level in his rookie season. Mike Evans has dealt with injuries, too, showing that the Bucs' two iconic receivers aren't in the same place they were last season.

The week is still young, and perhaps sitting out is just a precautionary move. Godwin and Irving will make Tampa Bay's offense more dangerous when they return from injury, but first, they need to get in the best shape to face the second half of the season.
