IndyCar champion Chip Ganassi Racing came out on December 12, 2025, and made the major announcement of Sunoco’s return to the American open wheel racing series as a primary sponsor for Kyffin Simpson’s No.8 Honda. The petroleum brand signed a multi-year deal with CGR as the iconic Sunoco livery makes a comeback to IndyCar.

Sunoco made its debut in IndyCar back in 1968 when Mark Donohue drove the iconic yellow and blue liveried Eagle at Riverside. The relationship continued, and Donohue won his maiden Indy 500 four years later in the Sunoco colors. 1973 was the last year when the petroleum brand featured as a primary sponsor in IndyCar for a full season.

After 53 years, Sunoco will make a return as the full-time sponsor for Kyffin Simpson's No.8 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda. Gary Bettenhousen, Tony Kanaan, Bobby Allison, and Townsend Bell have been the drivers previously backed by the petroleum brand.

Sunoco is the largest independent fuel distributor in America and was the official fuel supplier for IndyCar from 2010 to 2018. Speaking about the multi-year deal with Sunoco, team owner Chip Ganassi said,

“Sunoco has long been synonymous with performance and innovation, values that mirror the DNA of our team. To join forces with such an iconic brand and one with a storied legacy in IndyCar is truly special. This partnership reflects our shared drive to keep pushing boundaries, and we look forward to what we’ll accomplish together on and off the track.” (via Press release)

The team also revealed the Sunoco livery that Kyffin Simpson will run during the 2026 IndyCar season. It features the iconic colors of blue, yellow, and hints of red from the Sunoco logo. The base color of the Chip Ganassi Racing Honda is blue, with the front wing and upper side of the sidepods in yellow. The rear wing features the brand logo with the red arrow through it.

The 2026 IndyCar season will be Kyffin Simpson's third year with CGR. The 21-year-old made his IndyCar debut in 2024 and got his first podium in 2025 at the Indy Toronto. While Simpson hasn't been anywhere close to Alex Palou or Scott Dixon’s level of performance, he is still growing and improving.

Speaking about Sunoco’s multi-year deal with Chip Ganassi Racing and having the iconic sponsor on his car, Kyffin Simpson said,

“Starting my third year in IndyCar with Sunoco joining the No. 8 Honda is an incredible boost. We’ve made big strides on the track, and this partnership will only help us get better. I'm confident we can take another step forward and have even more success in 2026 and beyond.”

The 2026 IndyCar season begins on March 1, with Chip Ganassi Racing continuing with their lineup from 2025, which includes the champion Alex Palou, six-time IndyCar champion Scott Dixon, and Kyffin Simpson.
