The Kansas City Chiefs have kicked off organized team activities (OTAs) and one undrafted free-agent signing is generating some buzz.
That UDFA is wide receiver Jacob De Jesus, who posted a whopping 108 grabs for 1,030 yards and six touchdowns in his final collegiate season at Cal. Those 108 receptions ranked second in the FBS.
De Jesus also offers some return skills. He ranked in the top 15 in kick and punt return averages in 2023 while at UNLV.
"A rookie free agent signee to keep an eye on as OTAs get underway is wide receiver Jacob De Jesus, whose 108 receptions last season ranked second in the FBS," Chiefs writer Matt McMullen said.
The Chiefs have plenty of question marks at wide receiver, so that's one avenue for De Jesus to make the cut.
But having experience as a returner is another huge benefit for De Jesus, as special teams is often the best path for an undrafted player like himself to make the roster.
Chiefs' wide receiver concerns
Kansas City has no idea what's going to happen to Rashee Rice, who was recently sentenced to 30 days in jail for violating the terms of his probation.
Now, Rice may face another suspension.
Then we have Xavier Worthy, who had a disappointing second season after entering the campaign with plenty of hype.
Kansas City also lost Hollywood Brown in free agency and may to heavily rely on guys like Tyquan Thornton, Cyrus Allen and Jalen Royals.
Thornton was good early last season before mostly disappearing, and Allen and Royals are complete wild cards because they are unproven.
Patrick Mahomes might be able to make it back by Week 1, but what he'll be coming back to remains to be seen.
