Chiefs' rookie RB set for crucial role in 2026?

The Kansas City Chiefs' run game was horrible last season, and the franchise went about making sure that the rushing attack in 2026 is far better.

Kenneth Walker is the big addition to the room and one you could make the case is the biggest difference-maker on offense.

But it won't be a one-man band, though.

Rookie Emmett Johnson is also set to feature if he has a good offseason with the Chiefs; well, that's according to CBS Sports' Carter Bahns.

“Andy Reid said fifth-round running back Emmett Johnson has "a little bit" of LeSean McCoy to his game,” Bahns wrote. “That is a lofty comparison for Johnson but one that Reid backed up by highlighting his comprehensive skill set: lateral agility, pass protection, receiving ability and football IQ.

“Johnson will factor into the rotation behind prized free agency addition Kenneth Walker III.”

Chiefs' run game set to be focal point in 2026?

Given the uncertainty surrounding Mahomes' health, it has to be, at least early on in the year.

Having Mahomes able to rely on Walker, Brashad Smith, and Johnson would be the ideal scenario for the star quarterback.

Coming back from an ACL is tough enough, and if you add in that Patrick would need to then play the role of Superman, that's just asking for trouble.

So, Walker, and by Reid's comments, Johnson, will be tasked with making life easier for No. 15.

Because a quarterback's best friend is a productive run game, which, for the first time in a couple of seasons, Kansas City is expected to have.
