Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes has same trade value as Bills' Josh Allen

The Kansas City Chiefs would likely never trade Patrick Mahomes, just as the Buffalo Bills would likely never trade Josh Allen.

But if today, they called each other up and wanted to -- maybe it'd just be a one-for-one deal.

That's the way their trade value has been laid out in a new article on Thursday by ESPN's Bill Barnwell.

Barnwell attempts to figure out what the best players in the NFL would be worth if they were traded, and for guys like Mahomes and Allen, that's almost an impossible valuation to come up with.

For both, though, he lists them as being worth seven first-round picks.

That's an amount that's never before been traded, and for a team to even have that many (or equivalent players), they may first have to pull off another deal elsewhere just to have the right concentration of assets for the biggest trade in NFL history.

"I'm of the opinion that Allen is the best quarterback in football at the moment, having outplayed Mahomes over the past three seasons, but Mahomes' postseason halo and remarkably consistent success before 2025 would undoubtedly charm teams, too," Barnwell writes. "Mahomes turns 31 in November, so there would be some hesitation about committing too many future picks given his age and the knee injury. But that could still mean a decade of high-level quarterback play from arguably the best player of his generation."

Barnwell does wonder how Mahomes' recovery from a torn ACL would at least make teams hesitant right now, but it's kind of irrelevant, because this is all theoretical. Mahomes isn't getting traded today, tomorrow or probably any day.

If he did, though, the cost would be astounding, just as it would be for Allen.

Allen has mostly gotten the better of Mahomes in the regular season. Mahomes has gotten the better of Allen in the playoffs.

But as far as value -- they're as high as it goes in the NFL.
