Chiefs-Jets trade proposal adds explosive upgrade for Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid

If the Kansas City Chiefs want to add another explosive weapon to their offense, general manager Brett Veach should be giving the New York Jets a call.

The Chiefs' running backs room is led by Isaiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt, with free-agent acquisition Elijah Mitchell filling in behind them.

However, Pacheco and Mitchell have injury concerns, and Hunt looked to be trending toward the downside of his career in 2024.

The Chiefs could use some new life in their backfield as a result, and that's where Jets running back Breece Hall could come into play.

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, he thinks there's a realistic chance the Jets trade Hall at some point, although he envisions that happening at the trade deadline.

However, with the Jets planning on running a three-man committee at the position with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, Hall might want out much sooner than that and could force a trade before Week 1.

In wake of Cimini's report, Last Word on Sports' Anthony Palacios predicts the Chiefs will be a suitor for the 24-year-old running back.

Isiah Pacheco is entering the 2025 season on the hot seat. The Chiefs can’t afford to have a questionable backfield room, so they’re better off trading for Hall as soon as possible. Despite signing Elijah Mitchell, it only provides some short-term relief behind veteran Kareem Hunt, who is running out of gas and might sign elsewhere next season since the Chiefs might not compensate his next deal.

Hall is coming off what can be considered a down year after he averaged a career-low 4.2 yards per carry, but it is fair to note he was playing behind a bad offensive line and still managed to top 1,300 scrimmage yards, showing his prowess as a rusher and receiver.

Over his three years in the NFL, Hall has proven to be one of the more explosive weapons at running back with several big plays under his belt.

For a Chiefs offense that has lost some explosiveness in recent years, Hall would be just what the doctor ordered, and he and Pacheco would complement each other perfectly, with Pacheco being more of a between-the-tackles power back who doesn't offer much as a pass-catcher.

Furthermore, having an all-time great play-caller like Andy Reid could fully unlock the Iowa State product, who has never come close to playing for the the kind of offensive mind Reid is.

Hall is entering the final year of his contract, and if he goes off with the Chiefs in 2025, Kansas City will have a tough time affording him next offseason.

But the win-now Chiefs shouldn't be concerned about that. All that matters is the team getting back to the Super Bowl and avenging last year's loss, and acquiring Hall would put the Chiefs in a better position to do so.
