Chiefs starting offensive tackle Josh Simmons has returned to the team facility after missing four games due to a family issue, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday.

The Chiefs are on a bye week following a 28-21 loss to the Bills in Buffalo on Sunday.

This time allows Simmons to get re-acclimated before the Chiefs play the Broncos in Denver on Nov. 16.

It is unclear if he will be available to return to the Chiefs’ lineup in Week 11.

Simmons, the No. 32 overall pick in this year’s draft, has not yet addressed his absence.

The Chiefs have not shared further details about Simmons’ personal matter.

Head coach Andy Reid said Simmons was communicating with the team ahead of a 28-7 win over the Commanders on Oct. 27.

“My update for you with Josh would just be, there’s communication,” Reid told reporters. “I’m not going to get into all of it. Everything’s positive. It’s not a negative situation. He’s taking care of family.”

Simmons, 22, started each of the first five games while playing 95 percent of the offensive snaps for the Chiefs.

The Chiefs turned to Jaylon Moore at left tackle to protect quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ blindside.

Simmons was first scratched in Week 6, as he was added to the team’s injury report before facing the Lions on Oct. 12.

The Ohio State product was listed as questionable and the team said it was a personal matter and not injury related.

At the time, Rapoport reported that Simmons, a native of San Diego, was “dealing with a family matter back home in California.

The Chiefs beat Detroit 30-17 in that game.
