Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid would have been like most fans as OTAs began - he wanted to see how Patrick Mahomes was doing in his recovery.
With Patrick making it known of his desire to start Week 1, a lofty goal indeed, OTAs were going to be a good checkpoint to see how far Mahomes actually is in his recovery from a torn ACL.
Well, he participated in some drills as he wore a brace on his left knee as he got this offseason underway officially.
But what did Reid think of his star quarterback?
"I like what I've seen,” Reid said. “He's working hard, this is good for him, getting out there and throwing, it's good rehab so he keeps a feel with the receivers where he's doing partial practice, it's important to keep his timing up. He's busting his tail to put himself in this position. Most guys wouldn't even be able to do this, but he's put himself in that position.”

Mahomes ahead of schedule in ACL recovery
It is a great start to the offseason for the Chiefs, as Mahomes is taking part in OTAs, which is a great sign, but let's remember there is still a long way to go in the offseason.
How Mahomes' knee deals with the long days of practice, or even back-to-back days of light practice as he did at OTAs this week, will be an interesting watch.
Yes, Mahomes is ahead in his recovery, but it is crucial he stays that way and doesn't suffer any setbacks. His Week 1 goal remains achievable as long as he continues progressing in his recovery.
He's done it so far, with Reid liking what he's seen, but the key is for Mahomes to maintain this for the next couple of months.
