Chiefs' Andy Reid gives glowing scouting report on 'phenomenal' weapon

2 hours ago 1

The Kansas City Chiefs' offense has a lot of weapons, but one might stand out to head coach Andy Reid more than others.

Yes, you have Rashee Rice returning, Travis Kelce, and Xavier Worthy as the "big name" guys, but there are others like Marquise Brown, who don't get the fanfare of those mentioned above, but still play an important role.

Through seven weeks, Brown has been nothing but consistent, posting 316 yards from his 32 receptions and has four touchdowns in his last four games as he has been one of Patrick Mahomes' go-to guys.

And Reid has nothing but love for the type of player and person Hollywood is.

“I love him,” Reid said. “He's one of those energy givers. He doesn't say a lot, but there's a confidence that he presents and makes you feel like I got it, I got everything under control, dial me up. That's a great thing to have. Pat’s mixing and matching here, so everybody's getting a chance, and when he gets a chance with the ball in his area, he's coming down with [it] his hands are phenomenal.

"He's not the biggest guy, but he is fearless inside, which you don't see a lot of that in this league, some of his best work happens in there, and I appreciate that.”

Brown might be unheralded hero for Chiefs

With the likes of Kelce, Worthy, and Rice all getting the attention of the defense on a play-by-play basis, that means others have to step up and make the most of their opportunities when they come their way.

Brown has done just that.

Yeah, he might have only had 14 yards from his two receptions in the 31-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, but one of those receptions was a touchdown that helped set the Chiefs on their way in the second quarter to go up 14-0.

He might not get the biggest stats with just one game over 50 receiving yards (Week 1), but more often than not, when the ball is in his area, he comes down with it (66.7 catch percentage, best of career).

So, while others might get the limelight, Brown goes about his business as an essential but not well-known cog in the Kansas City machine.
