But what starts as a wrongful conviction turns into a deadly conspiracy because Carter, it turns out, was threatened by unknown people to frame Morgan for the Murder. Throughout the episode, Morgan has a gunshot wound, and after refusing to get it tended to at the hospital and trying to track down Carter instead, to know the truth, he dies from his injuries in the end.

However, armed with the latest discoveries in the case, Dante Torres visits Morgan's daughter to tell her about his father's innocence and that he will help with the case. Carter also doesn't make it because a shooter takes him out at the back of the police car. Whoever is behind the conspiracy has gotten to him before the police can question him, leaving the case open-ended.
