Chelsea reportedly have no plans to sign any player on a permanent transfer in January. The Blues are open to letting some players leave in the window, but incomings have been ruled out.
According to a report in GOAL, Chelsea will only consider permanent signings in January if they are forced to enter the market due to an injury. They will also jump on any situation that is deemed 'too good to pass up'.
The Premier League side parted ways with manager Enzo Maresca on New Year's Day and are currently in talks with Liam Rosenior to replace the Italian at Stamford Bridge. The club hierarchy do not see a need to sign any player on a permanent transfer in the winter window, but will hold talks with their targets as they plan for the summer.
However, players excess to requirements at Stamford Bridge will be allowed to leave this month. Raheem Sterling has been linked with West Ham United and Fulham, while Tyrique George is also linked with a switch to the Cottagers.
Filip Jorgensen is keen on leaving to play regularly after losing out to Robert Sanchez at Chelsea. Axel Disasi is also in talks to leave, after spending the first half of the season with the youth side.
Chelsea players remain focused after Enzo Maresca's exit
Chelsea players will be working with U21 coach Calum McFarlane this week after Enzo Maresca parted ways with the club on New Year's Day. The interim manager spoke to the media ahead of the Manchester City clash, saying that the players are doing well in trainig and are being led by Reece James, who has been in a similar situation at the club. He said:
"You don't know what to expect really, but the energy, enthusiasm and training was exceptional today. They seem really focused. They're really driven and hungry. They know we've got a massive game on Sunday and we're going to have to be at our best. You can feel that. They're professionals." "They've done this a long time. They've been here before. Reece [James] has been brilliant. He's been a real leader in the group and supported the staff and the players. You can't ask for any more. It just seems like a real focus for getting the best performance we can on Sunday."Chelsea face Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, January 4, and will be keen on bouncing back with a win.
