Chelsea Gray helped the Las Vegas Aces complete a stunning comeback against the Indiana Fever on Thursday night. Afterward, the veteran guard delivered a clear message about an incident that resulted in two fans being removed from Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
The Aces erased a 20-point deficit and defeated the Fever 86-84 in overtime, but the action on the court was interrupted during the third quarter. Two courtside spectators were ejected after Las Vegas players brought their behavior to the attention of officials and arena security.
The exact comments that led to the ejections have not been publicly disclosed. Gray said the remarks were directed at teammate Jackie Young, who indicated that one of the fans had been talking to her throughout the game before eventually crossing a line. Gray did not claim to know every detail. However, she strongly supported Young and the decision made by arena personnel.
“They had a reason to kick him out,” Gray said, according to Athlon Sports. “They don’t just do that for nothing.”

Young reportedly tolerated the fan’s comments for much of the game. According to Gray, the situation changed when the spectator made a remark serious enough for Young to alert someone.
“It wasn’t directed at me; it was directed at Jackie,” Gray said. “She told somebody, and clearly they found reason to kick him out.”
Video from the game showed officials and security speaking with the spectators before escorting them away from their seats. Without audio or an official account of what was said, it would be unfair to speculate about the precise nature of the comments.
What is clear is that Young believed the interaction went beyond ordinary heckling. Officials and security personnel agreed that removal was warranted after reviewing the situation in real time.
Gray’s response reflected the trust inside the Aces’ locker room. She did not need to hear the alleged remark personally to support a teammate who said a boundary had been crossed.

Gray delivers in Aces’ dramatic comeback
The incident became one part of an eventful night in Indianapolis. Indiana appeared to be in control after building a 20-point advantage, but Las Vegas gradually fought its way back. Gray hit a 3-pointer to tie the game at 75 and force overtime, then knocked down the winning shot in the extra period.
She finished with 11 points, seven assists, four steals and two rebounds. Gray shot 4-of-10 from the field and made three of her five attempts from beyond the arc.
Her biggest contributions came when the Aces needed them most.
The victory improved Las Vegas to 22-9 and moved the defending WNBA champions within 2.5 games of the Minnesota Lynx for the league’s best record. Indiana was left to process a crushing defeat after allowing its sizable lead to disappear at home. Las Vegas will now travel to face Minnesota on Saturday in a matchup with significant implications near the top of the standings.
Before turning her attention to the Lynx, however, Gray made sure her position on Thursday’s incident was understood. Fans can be passionate and vocal, but players do not have to accept every comment thrown their way.
Once Young determined that a spectator had gone too far, Gray had no problem standing behind her teammate.
