Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa. They were linked with him in the summer of 2024 as well, but a deal didn't materialize.

Aghehowa has been excellent since joining Porto from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2024. He has scored 45 goals and provided four assists in 69 games for them. This season, he's recorded 16 goals and one assist in 23 games across competitions.

Aghehowa is garnering interest from numerous clubs across Europe, including Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur. In his Substack column, journalist Simon Phillips reported:

"We are hearing about a new move to try and sign the 21-year-old striker. Samu has 18 goals in 24 games for Porto this season, and last season he ended the campaign with 27 goals in 45 games. "He has caught Chelsea’s eyes once again, and the rare thing has happened here in that I have been told his name by not just one source, but two of my top sources in just this last week. So that is why I know this is some very serious interest and I’d imagine that contact has been made with his people.

Aghehowa's contract with Porto expires in 2029, but it has a release clause worth £87 million.

Premier League legend highlights areas where Chelsea need to improve

Alan Shearer believes the west London side needs to sign a centre-forward to compete for the Premier League. He added that they need a centre-half and a goalkeeper as well.

The former Newcastle United striker said:

"I think they’re lacking a top-class No.9 and a top-class centre-half, I think, as well. Maybe a goalkeeper… I’ve never been convinced with Chelsea that they can win the league." "I’m not saying that [Joao] Pedro and [Liam] Delap can’t do it, but I think to get to that elite level and challenge for Premier League, then I would say they’d probably need a top class centre-forward and centre-half," he added.

Chelsea had a good start to the 2025-26 campaign, but have just one win in their last seven Premier League games. This has led to them dropping from second to fifth place in the league standings.

Moreover, this has also led to major speculation about head coach Enzo Maresca's future. As per Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol, the Italian manager could leave the club this week, amidst a falling out with the owners.
