Chelsea and Liverpool are both allegedly interested in launching moves to snap up Bayern Munich centre-back Kim Min-jae this summer.
Kim, who will turn 29 this November, has failed to live up to expectations at the Bavarians since departing Napoli for £42 million in 2023. However, the South Korea international has helped his team win a Bundesliga title so far.
Now, according to Caught Offside, Kim's future at Bayern Munich is up in the air and he could be allowed to leave this summer. The Bavarians are believed to be keen to cash in on him as they have dropped their asking price from £42 million to £30 million.
As a result, Liverpool have earmarked Kim as a defensive transfer target, same as Chelsea. Newcastle United have also held initial talks with Kim's camp, while Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan are also interested.
Kim, who is also allegedly keen to leave his club this summer, is believed to be particularly interested in joining a Premier League team. During his time at the Vincent Kompany-coached side, he has recorded four goals and two assists in 79 total appearances so far.
Ex-Liverpool star opines on Chelsea's snub
Earlier this week, Chelsea paid Manchester United £5 million and backed away from their £25 million obligation to buy clause for Jadon Sancho.
During a chat on talkSPORT, former Liverpool star Danny Murphy claimed the west London team should have permanently signed Sancho. He said (h/t Metro):
"I'd like to think people evolve, young players especially, you have to give them time to make mistakes. But I actually think he's done alright for Chelsea this season when I've seen him. His technical ability is brilliant. Very rarely gives the ball away, now end product is a question mark. He's played in a lot of big games, and that's because he's reliable with the ball and he knows his job."Murphy, who played for Liverpool between 1997 and 2004, concluded:
"He's a bright footballer. He turned up at Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, when he was 20 and because they paid a huge amount for him which was inflated, he was expected to hit [the ground running]. I think Jadon Sancho for £25million is really good value."Sancho, 25, started 26 of his 41 total appearances for the Blues last term. He scored five goals and registered 10 assists in 2,419 minutes for them.
