Chelsea may be intent on strengthening their attack at the moment, but that does not mean they don’t plan to bolster their defence.
After signing Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, the Blues are on the verge of announcing Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund.
However, once that is confirmed, fans can expect the club to focus on defensive reinforcements.
Chelsea are known to be in the market for a new goalkeeper and have been heavily linked with a move for AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan.
However, the Blues have failed to agree on a fee for the Frenchman so far, and now a move for the player seems unlikely.
As a result, Chelsea are now being linked to other goalkeepers, and one of the players who has reportedly been shortlisted is Barcelona shot-stopper Marc-André ter Stegen.

Why a move to Stamford Bridge makes sense for Ter Stegen
Despite now being a six-time champion of La Liga with the club, Ter Stegen has lost his place as the regular goalkeeper at the club. He played just eight games in the competition last season.
This doesn’t seem to have deterred the Blues, though. CaughtOffside have claimed that Chelsea have Ter Stegen on their shortlist for a new goalkeeper this summer.
The report goes on to say that a deal is not expected imminently, with them set to analyse their options before the window slams shut.
A move to Stamford Bridge does make sense for the German short-stopper as he is looking for regular playing time, which he will get in West London.
On the flipside, Chelsea are looking for an experienced goalkeeper who is not prone to making silly mistakes, and Ter Stegen fits the bill perfectly.
Though it's too early to comment at the moment, this potential transfer does look like a match made in heaven.
