The Los Angeles Chargers are on a Week 7 bye, sitting at 0-6. Jim Harbaugh's team has been the NFL's biggest disappointment, and with such a poor record, a major trade-deadline sell-off wouldn't be a surprise.
It would not be a surprise if the Chargers, with such a poor record, begin to mull their options at the trade deadline. There's bound to be plenty of players worth something on this team, and it wouldn't be a surprise if they sold.
However, according to ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Chargers' trade deadline plans at 0-6 make no sense. Instead of already looking to sell and give up on the season, the Chargers still believe they have a chance based on their current stance on trades.
Chargers trade deadline plans at 0-6 make no sense
"Chargers, at 0-6, still giving impression they are standing pat," Fowler reports. "But a long way till Nov. 10 deadline, and Chargers are receiving calls."
While this is only the team's Week 7 plan, it's still one that doesn't make sense with how poorly things have gone this season.
It would make perfect sense for this Chargers team to begin selling pieces sooner rather than later, as they can get out in front of the trade market and begin retooling for the 2027 season and beyond.
Unfortunately, at 0-6, the Chargers' hopes of making the playoffs are essentially over. Based on how they've played thus far, it would be a shocker if they even finished with an 8-9 record, let alone one that'd sneak them into the playoffs.

It is only Week 7, and the trade deadline isn't until the Tuesday following Week 9. But for a team that's clearly out of the race and can only go 2-6 at best by the trade deadline, selling is their only real option this season.
So, why wait? Why continue to stand pat and only receive trade calls? This team didn't live up to expectations, and it would take a miracle for things to turn around this season.
For the betterment of the future of this franchise, the Chargers should be trying to make trades as soon as possible. Khalil Mack, Quentin Johnston, Kimani Vidal, Keaton Mitchell, and just about every player not signed to a long-term deal should be available.
There's not a more obvious team in the NFL that should be selling this year than the Chargers. At 0-6, their season is pretty much over. This plan of standing pat makes no sense, especially with all the valuable assets at their disposal.
