Celtics trade proposal ships Derrick White to West Coast for $78 million scorer

The Boston Celtics have been one of the busiest teams this offseason, and they might still have a big move up their sleeves.

Since the beginning of the offseason, Brad Stevens has been tearing down the championship core in hopes of helping the team’s financial situation moving forward. While they accomplished their main goal of getting out of financial trouble, the Celtics might have hurt their chances of winning a title moving forward.

While Jayson Tatum’s absence has already made the 2025-26 campaign a lost cause, the Celtics must look toward the future when their star returns to the floor. As suggested by Fantasy Sports on SI’s Dave Holcomb, the Celtics might need to trade Derrick White to make that happen.

Celtics receive: Malik Monk, Dennis Schroder, 2030 first-round pick

Kings receive: Derrick White

While it might seem like a cruel punishment to send White to Sacramento, it might be worth it from the Celtics’ perspective. While neither Monk nor Schroder can provide the defense White has given Boston, they could both be critical to the team’s offensive success next season.

Both players possess the ability to increase and decrease their usage rather seamlessly as they play with or without stars on the floor. Add in a first-round pick that could be used in a future trade, and the Celtics might be wise to consider this deal.

Of course, if Boston is going to trade White, it might be wise to let the world know and get some more competitive bids than this one.
