The Philadelphia 76ers are looking to reestablish themselves as a top contender in the Eastern Conference after a disappointing season.
Last year, the 76ers were among the worst teams in the league, finishing the season with a 24-58 record, a sharp decline for a franchise with championship aspirations.
Star point guard Tyrese Maxey, in particular, enters the season with something to prove. Last season, the star former all-star led the 76ers in scoring, and he returns to lead the team's efforts in turning things around.
Maxey spoke up about the importance of health and chemistry for the 76ers entering next season.
"The biggest thing is we got to get on the court together," Maxey told ClutchPoints. "We've got to be healthy and we've got to have continuity." You can't do anything if the guys aren't together. If we aren't together, if we aren't all on the same page, if we're not all moving in the right direction, it's going to be extremely hard. So that's my main goal. That's something that I had to focus on and have to really help build, is the chemistry of the team and help this team step in the right direction. And then after that, then we can worry about how talented we are."
The 76ers fell short of the goal of making the postseason last season. They dealt with several injuries to key stars, including Joel Embiid, Jared Cain, and Paul George, who signed with the 76ers last offseason.
Maxey managed to play at an All-Star level well last season, averaging 26.3 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.8 steals in 52 games.
With a healthy roster alongside the No.3 overall pick, VJ Edgecomb, the 76ers have the talent and depth to reemerge as a legimitate title contender.
