Celtics offseason drama puts Jaylen Brown-Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors in spotlight

The Boston Celtics started their offseason four days ago, and it’s already started to get turbulent.

Celtics star Jaylen Brown has been vocal about Boston’s series against the Philadelphia 76ers, and other reports show Brown has been frustrated with the Celtics organization.

Combining all of that, it seems like the rumors of a possible trade for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo for Jaylen Brown could be on the table.

Brown has been on social media since the series loss to Philly four days ago. He first started streaming the day after the Celtics lost, calling out the refs for bias and Sixers superstar Joel Embiid for flopping.

Most recently, Brown’s mentor and NBA Hall-of-Famer Tracy McGrady spoke about Brown’s frustration with Boston.

“I think his frustration lies deeply in the organization that we don’t have the details to… There’s just been a lot of stuff that I’ve been hearing, just going on with the Boston organization with JB,” McGrady said.

However, on the flip side of this, Celtics GM Brad Stevens said none of Brown’s frustrations were ever revealed to him. Also, the last time he spoke with the star it seemed like all positive vibes.

This could just be a move to keep Brown’s value high, to make it seem like he doesn’t want to leave. In doing so, other teams can’t lowball Boston due to the fact they could have a guy who either won’t play or participate until he’s moved.

What would a Celtics team with Giannis look like?

Giannis would definitely be an upgrade from Brown. While he is two years older, he’s a much better defender and scorer than Brown. His domination on the inside would allow for Mazzulla Ball to thrive, and would create one of the greatest pick-and-roll threats of all time with Jayson Tatum.

With rumors swirling and continuing to heat up, this trade isn’t so far fetched as it was a couple months ago. Giannis has finished top four or higher in the MVP race since the 2018-19 season, and getting a player of his caliber by sacrificing Brown might be the call to make.
