DENVER — When you go almost a month without as much as a 3-1 stretch, consider it a ray of sunshine when that mark is reached.
The Mets have indeed won three of four games, but instead of sun Tuesday, received a rainy day in Colorado and postponement. There is snow in Wednesday’s forecast.
At some point the Mets will play again. A week ago, that statement would have brought loud groans from the fanbase. But now? Here are a few reasons for mild optimism the Mets can still resurrect their season, despite owning the National League’s worst record:
The schedule
For last-place teams there are only hard games. That said, if you are an underachiever trying to build momentum, you like your chances better if you can avoid facing top opponents. But the Mets also didn’t capitalize on the last homestand, going 3-6 against the Twins, Rockies and Nationals.
