Celtics' Jayson Tatum gets discouraging injury news after awkward fall

The Boston Celtics suffered a devastating 121-113 loss to the New York Knicks on Monday night, moving one game closer to a second-round playoff exit.

While it’s logical to state that the Celtics feel deflated after the defeat, the organization is likely more concerned with the status of its superstar forward, Jayson Tatum. The Duke product left the contest late in the fourth quarter with what appeared to be a non-contact leg injury.

Soon after the injury, Tatum received discouraging news about the injury from Dr. Evan Jeffries, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, on X/Twitter.

"Jayson Tatum was injured on this play right here,” Jeffries wrote. "With that step back on the right and his reaction the fear would be for an Achilles Tear.”

Jeffries then posted a new angle of the injury but provided a similar outlook.

“Here is the other view, and I still don’t like the outlook for Jayson Tatum. You can see a vibration up the right calf after the Step Back. Signs of a possible Achilles Tear.”

While an MRI will need to verify Jeffries’ analysis before Tatum and Celtics fans begin to panic, it’s never good when a health expert/doctor lays out a horrifying possibility after the fact.

Tatum finished Boston’s Game 4 road clash against the Knicks with 42 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, and two blocks, shooting 57.1% from the field and 43.8% from three.

Hopefully, the 27-year-old stud doesn’t miss significant time with his unfortunate lower body setback.
