The Boston Celtics have a rookie putting up some of the most impressive on-court analytics numbers ever.
But that guy, Hugo Gonzalez, wasn't even named to the Rising Stars game at All-Star Weekend.
In fact, no rookie taken outside the top-20 made the cut. Gonzalez went No. 28.
It appears, in some ways, to be an oversight.
Gonzalez currently has the best plus-minus among rookies in the NBA by more than double over second place.

He also has the third-best plus-minus per game of any rookie all time, behind just Tim Duncan and Chet Holmgren.
Yes, that's helped by the Celtics being a quality team, but it's still remarkable.
— Drew Carter (@Drewdle25) January 26, 2026Gonzalez isn't helped by his counting stats, which are at just 4.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. That's surely why he missed out.
But it's not like the Rising Stars Game is consistently full of guys putting up huge numbers. Oftentimes, there are hardly enough effective rookies to go around.
Someone needed to look under the hood a bit to recognize the impact Gonzalez is already making in his first season.
Instead, he'll get to rest a bit over All-Star Weekend.
