Celtics' Derrick White in trade rumors that go beyond Giannis

1 hour ago 3

The Boston Celtics are apparently heavily involved in the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade negotiations with the Milwaukee Bucks.

Those rumors suggest it would take a package headlined by Jaylen Brown to get Giannis to Boston.

The Celtics apparently could go beyond that this offseason, too, if they want.

Derrick White is being targeted by other teams that apparently think Boston is open for major business.

The Minnesota Timberwolves want White, writes Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic in a new article on Monday.

"Minnesota has been most aggressive in pursuing White, the Celtics’ defensive mastermind who has the experience and the savvy to help Edwards and the Wolves break through in the West," Krawczynski writes. "White turns 32 next month and saw his 3-point shooting percentage drop considerably this season, but so far the Celtics have rebuffed the Wolves’ advances."

It's obvious why the Timberwolves would want this -- they had serious point guard struggles in 2025-26.

Anthony Edwards is a great playmaker, but he doesn't need to initiate offense all the time.

Donte DiVincenzo's injury made things tougher, too, and really emphasized what a player like White might do in Minnesota.

For the Celtics, though, this would be a tough one. It would depend a ton on what they could get in return, and it's not clear the Wolves would have the kind of pieces Boston would want.

Whether the Celtics get Giannis or not, giving up White is a totally different equation. Don't count on it happening, but apparently teams think there's enough of a chance that they're going after the talented point guard.
