Celeb-filled LA enclave where ‘American Idol’ exec was executed saw 40% spike in terrifying break-ins

The wealthy Los Angeles enclave where “American Idol” executive Robin Kaye and her husband were murdered in an apparent home-invasion was terrorized by a string of violent break-ins last summer.

Encino — located northwest of downtown LA and home to celebrities like Nick Jonas and Dave Grohl — saw a 40% spike in home burglaries in late July and August last year during a stretch where at least eight break-ins were reported in a matter of weeks.

In most of those burglaries, teams of masked thieves smashed open windows and glass doors and broke in — often while terrified families and kids were cowering inside, according to NBC 4 Los Angeles.

Police ended up having to add helicopters to their patrols to tamp down the crime spree.

It’s a playbook that mirrors the invasion at Kaye’s $4.5 million mansion last week, when a creep apparently broke a window and snuck inside — then executed the 70-year-old and her husband, Thomas Deluca, when they walked in on the burglary.

Their bodies were found in separate rooms with fatal gunshot wounds to the head on Monday after they hadn’t been heard from for days. The break-in and murders are believed to have happened on Thursday.

A 22-year-old suspect, Raymond Boodarian, was arrested Tuesday. Police say he had no connection to the couple, and that the break-in seemed to be an isolated incident with no connection to greater crime rings.

But in the weeks before they were killed, Kaye and Deluca reportedly reached out to a private security company with concerns over someone lurking about their neighborhood, NBC Los Angeles reported.

“She felt threatened by somebody because of somebody around their home or around their neighborhood who felt suspicious,” said Kris Herzog, owner of Bodyguard Group of Beverly Hills that Kaye and Deluca contacted.

They did not end up hiring Herzog.

Neighbors say they didn’t hear anything at the house last week, but that one person called police after a someone was seen hopping the couple’s fence.

“My renter saw somebody hopping the fence, but that was back on Thursday. She called 911, but we didn’t hear anything since then, so we have no idea if it’s even related or not,” neighbor Amee Faggen said.

Police responded to that call, but found “no signs of forced entry or trouble.”

Kaye was a music supervisor who spent 15 years working for “American Idol” and took home a bevy of industry awards along the way. Her husband was a musician.

Last summer’s Encino break-ins appeared to follow a playbook used by local Latin gangs, where thieves target a neighborhood for weeks at a time before moving on a new area, according to police.
