Cavs get good news on bringing LeBron James back to Cleveland before retirement

It's been a thought floating out there for a while: What if LeBron James came back to Cleveland to play for the Cavaliers for one more season?

And these days, it's seeming more and more realistic.

James remains with the Los Angeles Lakers right now, but he's in the last year of his contract.

At the end of the year, he'll have to decide whether he retires, but if not, he'll have to choose a free agent destination.

In a new ESPN article on Tuesday, insiders Dave McMenamin and Tim Bontemps took a deeper look at the possible options for James.

A return to the Los Angeles Lakers is still possible, they wrote, with it potentially being driven by James' new love for golf.

James could also consider teaming up with Steph Curry on the Golden State Warriors.

The Cavs, James' hometown franchise and his first team, will have a pull, too.

The ESPN insider duo quotes two people who make it seem very possible James comes home again.

"It's the cleanest fit," an East executive told them. A West scout added: "I always thought it made the most sense for him to go back home."

"Though James has become polarizing as his career has advanced, he remains a popular native son in Cleveland, with Cavs fans showering him with love every time he has visited with the Lakers," McMenamin and Bontemps wrote.

There'd be no bigger story in Cleveland sports this year than a potential James return to town. The Cavs will certainly do everything they can to make it happen.

If the contract and salary cap implications make sense, it could be a sentimental, nostalgic and exciting development to bring James home one more time.
