Cavs' Donovan Mitchell passes Michael Jordan for incredible NBA record in playoff Game 1s

Move over, MJ.

Donovan Mitchell is officially ahead of Michael Jordan on an incredible NBA Playoffs record board.

The feat happened on Sunday in the Cavs' Game 1 of their Eastern Conference semifinals series against the Indiana Pacers.

Mitchell surpassed 30 points for the eighth consecutive series opener.

That passed Jordan's record of seven-straight Game 1s with at least 30 points.

It's sort of a quirky record, but it emphasizes Mitchell's playoff ability.

He averages more than 28 points per game in his playoff career in general, so this isn't that unusual.

The one flaw Mitchell has is that he's never gotten past the second round of the postseason.

But he does his part.

On Sunday, he had to take an extraordinary number of shots with Darius Garland out injured.

They didn't all go in, but Mitchell kept shooting, because that's exactly what Cleveland needed.

And by the end of the night, Mitchell had passed Jordan on an all-time leaderboard.

Any time you move ahead of MJ, you've done something right.
