Cavaliers urged to trade for 3-point marksman amid championship push

The Cleveland Cavaliers have been urged to trade for a sharpshooter to build out their roster depth prior to what it hopes will be its first championship season in a decade.

After seeing their East-best 64-18 run in 2024-25 fizzle out during the second round of the playoffs this past spring, a resilient Cleveland opted not to do much in the offseason.

The Cavaliers let sixth man guard Ty Jerome walk in free agency, replacing him with 3-and-D point guard Lonzo Ball in a one-for-one trade that saw them ditching little-used wing Isaac Okoro.

Cavaliers on the rise

Otherwise, Cleveland will be relatively the same squad that it was last season, albeit in an Eastern Conference that has been decimated by Achilles tendon tears to its All-Stars.

But might it benefit the Cavaliers to consider further moves?

Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report suggests Cleveland makes tweaks to address a perimeter issue.

With small forward Max Strus recovering from a broken foot, Swartz proposes the Cavaliers make a deal to acquire 6-foot-7 small forward Corey Kispert.

The 26-year-old Gonzaga product is poised to kick off the first season of a four-year, $54 million contract extension he inked with Washington in 2024.

In 61 healthy bouts for the Wizards last year, Kispert notched averages of 11.6 points on .451/.364/.852 shooting splits, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per.

Across the first four seasons of his career, Kispert is a 38.2 percent long range sniper, on 5.4 long range takes.
