NBA free agency appears to be on hold as LeBron James continues to take his time before making a decision. On the second day of free agency, James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he would be taking his talents elsewhere for what is expected to be the final stop of his career.

James' decision will come down to happiness, fit, and joining a legitimate championship contender. His agent, Rich Paul, has already identified the teams that remain in the running for the four-time NBA champion.

“Rich Paul made a white board with ‘realistic destinations’ for LeBron. 76ers, Knicks, Cavs, TWolves, Nuggets, Heat, Warriors, Celtics, Spurs, and Mavs,” Bleacher Report posted.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have started to generate significant momentum in the race to land James. There have even been reports that they are keeping a roster spot open for Bronny James.

“The Cavaliers are willing to acquire Bronny James in order to lure LeBron back to Cleveland, per The Stein Line. Bronny’s contract with the Lakers this season just became guaranteed. Cleveland will keep open two roster spots for LeBron and Bronny,” NBA reporter Evan Sidery posted.

James is nearing the end of his career, and it feels as though he has, at most, two seasons remaining. Because of that, he is taking his next destination very seriously. Around the league, many now believe the Cavaliers have emerged as the favorites to sign him.

“Other teams within the LeBron James sweepstakes feel like the Cavaliers are the current favorites to sign him, per The Stein Line. LeBron finishing his career in Cleveland for a third chapter could be happening soon,” Sidery wrote.

A return to Cleveland would likely mark the final chapter of James' legendary career, whether it lasts one season or two. Acquiring Bronny James also appears to be an important part of the Cavaliers' pursuit if they hope to bring LeBron back.

James' last contract with the Lakers was worth $101 million, but his next deal is expected to be significantly smaller. The Cavaliers have to feel like they are in a strong position to land James and, so far, appear to have pushed all the right buttons.
