Carrie Underwood knew she was going to face some backlash for criticizing American Idol contestant Mor for his performance of an original song in this week’s episode. And she was right.
The 22-year-old contestant took a major risk by delivering an acoustic performance of his original song “how to love you” during Hollywood Week while his competition opted to sing Chappell Roan, Demi Lovato, The Killers and more.
Underwood predicted she was going to get booed by the audience for what she had to say about Mor’s performance.
“I feel like you guys are gonna boo me,” she said. “And it’s coming, just bring it on! I love it! Your boos are feeding me!”
The “Before He Cheats” singer had both good and bad things to say about the original performance.
“In a room like this, for you to bring an original song, with that incredible band sitting behind you, like twiddling their thumbs, I feel like it was just a missed opportunity,” she began. Her statement was quickly met with boos from the audience, proving her right.

Despite Underwood’s praise, Mor did not make it to the next round.
Underwood seemed to be posting her reactions to the episode on X. “Boo me. I don’t care,” she wrote on X.
But she later gave Mor a shoutout, writing, “Singing original music is SUCH a gamble at this stage in the competition. Don’t. Waste. The. Band. Mor’s voice and previous audition kept him in. I wanna hear his original music after he’s a big star!”
This marks Underwood’s second season as a judge on American Idol since joining judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie in Season 23 as Katy Perry’s replacement. The country singer famously launched her career after winning Season 4 in 2005.
New episodes of American Idol air Mondays at 8/7c on ABC and stream next day on Hulu.
