As soon as the St. Louis Cardinals thought they were getting healthier in the final stretch of the regular season, another injury setback kept them from reaching their highest potential.

After losing their fourth straight game on Friday, the Cardinals are still four games behind the New York Mets in the Wild Card race, but time's ticking with a little over two weeks left before the postseason.

Just a day after Brendan Donovan and John King returned from setbacks, a different Cardinals top player was placed on the injured list.

Masyn Winn placed on 10-day IL, gets shut down for rest of season

Before Saturday's matchup against the Brewers, the St. Louis Cardinals announced that shortstop Masyn Winn was placed on the 10-day injured list with a torn meniscus in his right knee. The team recalled infielder Jose Fermin from Triple-A.

The Athletic's Katie Woo posted to social media that the 23-year-old was playing through the torn meniscus, but his knee wasn't recovering "well enough" to continue playing out the season. He will be shut down for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Masyn Winn’s season is over, Oli Marmol announces. Winn was hoping to play in front of home fans next week in the final homestand, but the knee was not recovering well enough, and the team made the decision this evening to shut him down for the season. #STLCards
