Candace Owens set off a social media storm after releasing a video clip she claims is of previously unseen security footage showing the assassination of Charlie Kirk from a new angle.
The conservative podcaster, 37, who is currently being sued by the First Lady of France Brigitte Macron for claiming she was born a man, released the footage on her self-titled podcast on Tuesday — fueling conspiracy theories that Tyler Robinson, the man accused in Kirk’s assassination, did not pull the trigger.
The previously unseen footage, which Owens claims to have received from a government source, purported to show the shooter on top of the Losee Center at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10, 2025, in the one minute and 20 seconds before the shooting.
In that span, the alleged shooter sprints across the roof towards the far edge of the Losee Center.
On approach, the figure in all black executes what Owens claimed is a “lateral crawl” — which she suggested was a military maneuver — moving to the right and then the left as they approach the corner of the building.
The person then lays down flat and crawls on their belly on the roof to the edge, roughly 160 yards from where Kirk was speaking at his “American Comeback Tour” — looking out over the edge and appearing to pull something from a bag or their person.
Less than one minute later, the subject runs across the building towards the other part of the Losee Center roof, which lines up with previously released footage of the Kirk assassination suspect allegedly fleeing the scene by jumping from the building.
Owens claimed the footage was played during the weeklong preliminary hearing for Robinson held in Utah State District Court from July 6-10. Though it has been reported that security footage was played in court during the hearing, officials have not specified what that video actually showed.
The so-called leak of the video, which only Owens has claimed is legitimate, has been fuel in the tank of Charlie Kirk assassination conspiracy theories.
Alex Jones, who last year was ordered to pay $1.4 billion to the families of Sandy Hook after espousing wildly false claims about the 2012 elementary school massacre, claimed the footage was proof that Robinson did not assassinate Charlie Kirk.
“The Official Charlie Kirk assassination story is now 100% dead!” the former InfoWars host declared in an X post with over 4.7 million views.
Jones and other conspiracy theorists claimed the footage showed that the shooter never pulled a rifle from his pants, had no limp, and that the person is not seen assembling a firearm before the shooting.
Charging documents for Robinson assert that he walked with an “unusual gait” with “very little bending in his right leg,” which authorities state was consistent with a rifle being hidden in his pants.
Those September 2025 documents did not include the claim that Robinson assembled the Mauser Model 98 .03-06 bolt-action rifle — but subsequent documents filed in July claimed that Robinson used a red-and-black screwdriver to assemble the weapon on the roof.
Prosecutors claimed at that multi-day preliminary hearing that there is overwhelming evidence that Robinson should face trial for Kirk’s murder. He has pleaded not guilty to seven charges, including murder, in Kirk’s death.
The case is due back in court in September.
Owens was once a close ally of Kirk, working as a Communications Director from 2017 to 2019 at Turning Point USA before turning heel on the conservative youth organization and has strongly suggested it was complicit in Kirk’s killing.
Turning Point USA did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
Kirk’s widow Erika Kirk, who attended the preliminary hearing for Robinson in July, has previously called for Owens to stop pushing conspiracy theories in her husband’s death.
“Stop,” she said in 2025. “That’s it. That’s all I have to say. Stop.”
