Having confirmed a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout round, co-hosts Canada now seek the top spot in Group B as Les Rouges take on Switzerland in Vancouver on Wednesday to conclude group stage play.

Jesse Marsch has led Canada to four points from their first two matches, the country's first-ever points at a FIFA World Cup. Now, level on points with Switzerland and holding a superior goal differential, all Canada need is a draw and they will advance as group winners, a significant advantage when it comes to knockout bracket placement.

Switzerland, meanwhile, must win to top the group, since their +3 goal differential is inferior to Canada's +6 mark.

The winner of Group B will take on a third-place qualifier from either Groups E, F, G, I, or J in the Round of 32, while the Group B runner-up will meet the runner-up from Group A, likely to be South Korea.

Prematch

5 hours to kickoff (10 a.m. ET): Canada's 6-0 win over Qatar put them in a great position ahead of this final game, needing to only draw to win the group.

However, that result also came at a high price, as the gruesome leg fracture suffered by Ismael Kone has remained burned in the memories of players and fans. Head coach Jesse Marsch talked about that moment after the game, saying the Qatar player Assim Madibo entered the Canada locker room to apologize to the host nation's squad.

Qatar manager Julen Lopetegui reportedly was angry at how Canada continued to attack the entire way through the match, but it benefited Les Rouges as their positive goal differential now gives them a competitive advantage.

Jesse Marsch said that Qatar player Assim Madibo entered Canada's dressing room after their match to apologize to Ismaël Koné for the tackle resulting in Koné's broken leg. #FIFAWorldCup pic.twitter.com/WhI9EcSuZ4
