The women's ice hockey portion of the 2026 Winter Olympics is rounding into gear, but there is still one preliminary game left before the knockout stage begins.
Canada and Finland were set to open the Olympics against each other, but the game had to be postponed as Finland dealt with a Norovirus outbreak. Therefore, the game will be made up on Thursday, one day before the knockout stage for women's ice hockey will kick off.
Both Canada and Finland will automatically move on to the next round, but this game is important for seeding. Canada enters the game with six points and in second place in Group A, but a Finland win in regulation would help the Fins jump Canada in the standings.

Canada is coming off a 5-0 blowout loss against Team USA, marking the first time that Canada got shut out in an Olympic hockey match. However, they were without star player Marie-Philip Poulin, who is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Meanwhile, Finland won its first match of the Olympics against Switzerland on Tuesday and needs any kind of points to improve its standing ahead of the quarterfinals. Finland can finish second, third or fourth in the Group A standings depending on how it does against Canada.
