Cam Ward is taking the next step

1 hour ago 2

Cam Ward has high expectations, and he has not been shy about that. By now, everyone knows the story: he wasn't exactly happy with the win over Cleveland because he wanted better performances from everyone, including himself. But over the last three weeks, Cam Ward has started to find his groove. The talented quarterback from the University of Miami and 2025 #1 overall pick has now thrown for six touchdowns and one interception over the last three games. Along with his touchdown-to-interception ratio, he has also been ascending in his Quarterback rating, going from 70.1 against Cleveland to 101.2 versus the 49ers to 122.3 against the Chiefs. Experience and seeing things have been part of it, but as veteran wide receiver Van Jefferson points out, Ward has been putting in the work to reach these types of results.

“His confidence, the way he approaches the game, and how he comes to work every day. Being a great student of the game and it is translating to the field. “

Ward admittedly eats, sleeps, and breathes football. Before the season, it was discussed that he would have early-morning meetings with his targets in the passing game and would study film with them. And with that, you can see the growth in his game and in his connection with his wide receivers.

A perfect example of that is what happened in Sunday’s game versus the Kansas City Chiefs. On a second down with eight yards to go in the third quarter while leading 9-6, Ward dropped back but faced some pressure in his face. He would roll out to his left and then throw a pass down the left sideline as Chim Dike broke with his quarterback. The ball was placed perfectly to Dike along the sideline and Dike got both feet in before being pushed out of bounds. The play not only showed off Cam’s arm strength but his understanding of not only what his wide receiver was going to do, but the concept of what the defense was trying to do to him.

Ward is starting to show the promise people saw in him when he was selected number one overall more consistently, and that happening can answer one question definitively, so that the Titans can build around Ward. And with the acumen he has shown, he has just begun to scratch the surface of how good he can be as the quarterback of the Tennessee Titans.
