Defensive tackle Cameron Heyward isn't the only veteran player on the Pittsburgh Steelers who is seeking a contract extension.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, kicker Chris Boswell is also eyeing a new deal from the team. The veteran kicker still has two years left on a four-year contract worth $20 million he signed in 2022, but it looks like Boswell wants a raise.
"In addition to Cam Heyward, All-Pro kicker Chris Boswell privately has been seeking a new contract from the Steelers, per source. Three years ago Boswell signed a contract that tied him with Justin Tucker as the NFL’s highest-paid kicker; but that market also has been reset the past two years," Schefter wrote.
Boswell is severely underpaid, as the 34-year-old is outside of the top ten highest-paid kickers in football despite being one of the best. The Rice product is coming off an All-Pro season in 2024, as Boswell connected on 41 of 44 attempts and also hit 13 of 15 from 50-plus yards.
Since becoming the Steelers kicker in 2015, Boswell has been one of the better players at the position. He has an 88% field goal success rate and has earned two Pro Bowl nods and a first-team All-Pro selection in 2024 for his play.
Along with Boswell, multiple-time All-Pro defensive lineman wants a new contract and has been quietly holding out of practice despite being present at training camp.
"With little fanfare, Steelers four-time All-Pro defensive tackle Cameron Heyward hasn’t fully participated in practice yet this summer as he awaits a restructured contract that has not gotten done, per sources," Schefter wrote on X.
"Heyward is seeking a raise in a defensive market that has experienced a reset this off-season. Heyward and the Steelers have addressed this privately, but have not made any progress on any reworked deal, per sources."
Pittsburgh has some time before the season to figure out new contracts for Heyward and Boswell, who are key parts of the team and have been for years.
