The New York Knicks are always in the market to land a huge star. Whenever a big name comes up as available, the Knicks trade rumors start to circulate. This offseason is no exception. The Knicks were so close to the NBA Finals last year they could taste it. Now, many are wondering if they are one big trade away from reaching the NBA Finals.
Mark Morales-Smith of Sports Illustrated recently proposed a potential Knicks trade idea that would land them the biggest star the NBA has ever seen. They may have missed out on getting him earlier in his career, but this Knicks-LeBron James trade idea would surely turn the NBA on its head.
“Knicks Receive: LeBron James, Bronny James
Lakers Receive: Josh Hart, OG Anunoby, First Round Pick
New York adds an absolute legend of the game, who brings infinite experience and four championship rings. His leadership and playmaking skills are enough to push the Knicks into the NBA Finals this season. Despite being 40 years old, James is somehow still playing as top 10 player in the league. While Hart and Anunoby are good players, being able to add an elite superstar to the roster without losing Jalen Brunson or Karl-Anthony Towns is a slam dunk trade for a team trying to win now.”
While Morales-Smith might think this is a slam-dunk trade for the Knicks, we disagree. While a Knicks-LeBron trade would certainly be interesting, getting rid of Hart, OG, and a first is just too much.
The Knicks are already set up to contend for a title next season. Sending away two of their most important players in order to trade for LeBron just doesn’t seem worth it. LeBron is still great, but he is 40 years old. He is bound to start regressing quickly soon. The Knicks don’t want to be stuck with him for the less glorious years of his career.

Right now, the Knicks are set up perfectly to contend. A Knicks-LeBron trade doesn’t put them any closer to contention now or in the future.
