California carjacker mowed down and shot by cops in wild video

Wild video shows a man wanted for a series of California car thefts dodging gunfire and getting mowed down by police after attempting to steal a cop car during a police chase that spanned 50 miles and ended with the suspect dead.

A carjacking suspect was killed Wednesday, and an SJPD sergeant was injured after a chase that spanned several South Bay cities.

Video shows a chaotic scene in downtown San Jose Wednesday afternoon as the series of events came to an end.

The chaos began when the suspect stole a vehicle from a San Jose car dealership and drove south toward Hollister, leading officers from the city and the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office to pursue him.

The suspect then stole another vehicle in Hollister and tried return to San Jose, leading officers on a high-speed chase that finally ended near Highway 87 at Notre Dame Avenue, ABC7 reported.

Police said the suspect died during the confrontation after attempting to steal a cop car. Officials have not released the cause of death.
